Abstract
Question was the successor to the RATIONALIST ANNUAL which began publication in 1884 under the title Agnostic Annual. When circumstances permit it is hoped to bring out QUESTION more often than once a year. The present title was chosen because in the conditions of today a name that suggests the search rather than the answer seemed appropriate. Commitment to rational inquiry, and a readiness to see the argument through wherever it leads mean that nothing is taken for granted, everything is in question.
From its inception a high academic level has been maintained without losing sight of the need to appeal to an educated but non-specialist public. Contributions range over all important human concerns except party politics, and gain their unity, not from conclusions reached which may vary considerably, but from the rational perspective in which the problems are viewed. Social issues, philosophy, religion, science and literature are examined by contributors with special qualifications to deal with the subjects of their choice.
